LoG - Bavaria: number of POI

Post by McAleks »

Hi everybody.

I'm big fan of your LoG series and as a "Münchner" I'm very happy, that you've released Bavaria earlier than expected. Nevertheless I'm a little bit disappointed about the number of POI. BW (1/2 the area of BY) has nearly 40 POI (Stuttgart: 6), BY has got only 20 POI (in München:: 0). Hmmm. I know, everybody wants the most POI in his home-country, but I think here is an obvious imbalance.
There's room for improvement. Here are a few candidates for the "List of lost POI":
Regensburg: Steinerne Brücke / München: Rathaus, Hofbräuhaus, Bavaria, Residenz, Staatsoper, Maximilianeum (Landtag), Dom, Theatinerkirche, Schloss Nymphenburg / Garmisch: Skiflugschanze / Dachau: Schloss / Schleißheim: Schloss / Fürstenfeldbruck: Kloster Fürstenfeld / Augsburg: WWK Arena / Nürnberg: Lorenzkirche, Kaiserburg, Max-Morlock-Stadion / Abernsberg: Hundertwasser-Turm / Parkstein: Basaltsäulen / Sylvenstein: Staudamm und Brücke / Kochel: Walchensee-Kraftwerk / …
Waiting for an update.
Greetings from Munich
Alexander

Thanks for your feedback.
Bavaria features quite a few cities with photogrammetry (München, Nürnberg, ...) We looked at the major landmarks in these cities, most importantly Munich, and found that any custom made landmark would not make much sense because of the really good photogrammetry.
We have a few objects on our to do list, but few of those you mentioned are on it. Most of them are barely visible from VFR altitude.
Our update plans at the moment:
- Sprungschanze Oberstorf
- Sprungschanze Garmisch
- Burg Lauenstein
- Straubing Stadtturm
- Straubing Basilika
and a few smaller objects.
But we're always open to more suggestions, as long as they really stand out and are missing in the sim.

Hi Alexander,

in that respect, I think Saxony was even more underwhelming. The whole state had only three (3!) POIs, one of which (Semperoper) was already covered by Photogrammetry.

So, I guess, as a general rule, it would be great, if in all states covered by Landmarks of Germany every major cities would have at least one important POIs integrated. Plus the most important and visible countryside landmarks.

In the case of Saxony, Dresden and Leipzig are covered by PG; but all the other major are missing such as:
Meißen (Albrechtsburg), Pirna (church and castle), Bautzen (loads of towers), Görlitz (St. Peter and Paul, Landeskrone), Zittau (Johanniskirche, Rathaus), Chemnitz (Bunter Schornstein, Roter Turm, Rathaus, Oper, Petrikirche), Zwickau (St. Marien), plus the castles in Torgau, Colditz (!), Lauenstein, Rammenau, Stolpen, Wildeck, Weesenstein – some of which are UNESCO world heritage sites.

Other than that – I am a big fan of the Landmarks of Germany series and would like to say a big Thank You to the FlightSim Development Group for filling this gap in scenery development. :) Downloading the new Bavaria edition right now and looking forward to some nice VFR flights over the South tonight.
